Moonfin Video Hub — 4K lock, no device limit
Moonfin is an alternative player that doesn't count against the Emby Premiere device limit. Force 4K playback on every screen.
Use Moonfin when you hit the Emby device limit
Emby Premiere caps how many devices count toward your limit: official iOS/Android apps, Emby Theater on Mac and Windows, Android TV, Fire TV, and any device that downloads content. When you've run out of slots, you get the "device limit exceeded" error.
Moonfin Video Hub does not count toward the Emby device limit
Use Moonfin on any device when you've exceeded Emby's cap. It's an alternative player for your DuckTV service.
Do not use Emby Connect
Emby Connect counts toward device limits. Use our custom Emby APK instead (see Emby guide), or switch to Moonfin.
Force 4K in Moonfin — not auto
- Open Moonfin Video Hub
Go to Settings → Playback / Stream quality.
- Stream quality
Set to 4K / Max — the highest number, not Auto.
- Adaptive downscale
Turn Off — this is what drops quality mid-show on other players.
- Auto quality
Turn Disabled / Off.
- Bitrate cap
Set to Unlimited so nothing is throttled.
Pair with a 4K device output
Moonfin locking to 4K won't help if the box itself is outputting 1080p. Also set your device to 4K output — Roku (Display type 4K HDR), Apple TV (Format 4K HDR10/Dolby Vision), Fire TV (Display 4K UHD), Shield (Resolution 4K). See the full 4K setup guide.
